How to pay URA taxes and fees with mobile money (PRN guide)
Get a PRN at ura.go.ug → *165# → Payments → Fees & Taxes → URA → With PRN. Airtel: *185# → Pay Bill → URA.
Almost every government payment in Uganda – driving permits, passports, land searches, business registration, taxes – uses a PRN (Payment Registration Number) from URA. Here's how to get one and pay with your phone.
Step 1: Generate a PRN
- Go to ura.go.ug and choose Make a payment (or log in to URA eServices).
- Select the tax/fee type (e.g. Ministry/Agency fees, permits, domestic taxes).
- Enter your details and the amount.
- You get a PRN with a fixed amount and expiry date.
Many agencies (passports, UDLS, URSB, land) generate the PRN for you inside their own portals.
Step 2: Pay the PRN with MTN MoMo
- Dial *165#
- Select Payments → Fees & Taxes → URA
- Choose With PRN and enter the PRN
- Confirm the amount and enter your PIN
Pay the PRN with Airtel Money
- Dial *185#
- Select Pay Bill → URA
- Choose Pay registered and enter the PRN
- Enter your PIN
You can also pay at any bank or through the URA mobile app. For very large payments, use the bank.
Scam alert: never pay URA fees to a personal phone number. Official payments always use a PRN.
