UEDCL electricity tariffs 2026 – how much is one unit of Yaka?
UGX 779.4 per unit for most homes. First 15 units UGX 250 (lifeline). Units 81–150 UGX 412 (cooking). Oct–Dec 2026.
Electricity tariffs in Uganda are set every quarter by the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA). Domestic (home) customers pay a stepped tariff – the price per unit (kWh) depends on how many units you have used in the month.
Domestic tariff, October–December 2026
| Monthly units (kWh) | Price per unit (UGX) |
|---|---|
| First 15 units (lifeline)* | 250.0 |
| 16 – 80 units | 779.4 |
| 81 – 150 units (cooking tariff) | 412.0 |
| Above 150 units | 779.4 |
*The lifeline rate applies to customers whose average use over the past 6 months is 100 kWh per month or less.
The cooking tariff for units 81–150 was UGX 412 in Q3 2026; confirm the Q4 figure on UEDCL's approved tariffs page. Tariffs exclude VAT where it applies.
How tariffs have changed in 2026
| Quarter | 16–80 kWh (UGX) |
|---|---|
| Jan–Mar 2026 | 756.2 |
| Apr–Jun 2026 | 756.2 |
| Jul–Sep 2026 | 779.4 |
| Oct–Dec 2026 | 779.4 |
Example: what does UGX 50,000 buy?
For a lifeline customer at the start of the month (no units bought yet):
- First 15 units × 250 = UGX 3,750
- Next 65 units (16–80) × 779.4 = UGX 50,661 — so UGX 46,250 left buys about 59 more units
- Total ≈ 74 units

Tip: because the cooking tariff (81–150 units) is cheaper, households that use electric cookers pay less per unit after their first 80 units each month.
